One street's loss is another arcade's gain as the Ann Summers shop moves just a few yards across Wigan.
The lingerie and sex items store has announced that it is to decamp from its current home in Standishgate to the Grand Arcade.
Two other vacant units are soon to be filled at the complex which opened last year, which means that there will soon only be one unit unoccupied there.

But it does mean another gap appearing on one of the town centre's main shopping streets just as Wilkinson's across the road finally opens at the former Debenham's store.

One of the fears when the Grand Arcade was announced was that businesses already established elsewhere in Wigan would simply migrate across to the new premises.

This has happened to an extent, not least with Debenhams and Boots moving over. The latter's old premises are now partly occupied by Poundland but the rest is still empty.
There are new arrivals too, including HMV and Waterstones.

Town centre manager Mike Matthews confirmed last week that the units vacated earlier this year by Pose and The Works will soon be filled by names new to Wigan.

Modus' Nigel Poad said: "I am not aware of many new schemes that have occupancy levels as high as Grand Arcade and we are working hard to get it to 100 per cent as soon as possible."

Wilkinson's is set to open on Standishgate in November, creating around 150 jobs.

The shortlived Forbes restaurant in Millgate was last week reincarnated by businessman David Lancashire as the Stables Brasserie and there are plans to turn the former Crofters Arms in Market Street, empty for more than a year, into an oriental restaurant.
