The regeneration of Wigan Pier's iconic mill buildings is hitting the headlines in several different ways.
Proposals for the £170m makeover of the Eckersley Mills site have been recognised for their architectural merit, while Trencherfield Mill has attracted one of the country's top interior designers to create a show apartment.

Maryland Securities' E
ckersley Mills plans have been Highly Commended in the Manchester Society of Architects annual awards.

Stirling prizewinner, Stephen Hodder of Hodder Associates, joint architects for the scheme with Lathams, said: "Many of the buildings at Eckersley Mills are grade II listed and were built between the 1880s and 1920 and they provide a fascinating record of technical innovation.

They show how mill architecture developed over an intense period of
industrialisation."

The proposals for the mixed-use regeneration scheme include 338 residential units, 25,000m sq of business space, a new hotel, cafés, restaurants, cultural facilities and gardens and squares.

Plans for the site have been submitted to the Metro for consideration.
Meanwhile Elaine Gore, of Lifestyle Interiors, has designed the new show apartment at the Trencherfield Mill development where Stewart
Milnes has refurbished the historic mill to create 52 homes.

The show apartment illustrates how buyers can work with the building's original features, including high ceilings, stylish tall windows and exposed brickwork, to create a stylish home.

Elaine said: "We've gone for a contemporary scheme using black, mustard and yellows.
"In the spacious open-plan living area we've complemented a chic black sofa with a vibrant yellow rug. Further splashes of colour have been introduced in the artwork.
