Residents can have a voice

FOR the first time ever, Wigan residents can vote for local people to become governors of North West Ambulance Service.

The governers will work with the Trust’s bosses on future plans and influence how the service spends its money.

A total of 20 public governors will be elected from the ambulance service’s existing membership of over 8,000 people, to form part of a 37-strong council.

Along with 11 governors that will be elected from the service’s workforce, there will be five appointed from partner organisations including the British Heart Foundation.

Governors will have opportunities to have a say in the Trust’s plans and influence its strategic direction.

They will also represent the needs of the communities in which they live; to ensure the ambulance service is responsive to the diverse population living in the five counties it serves.

Voting began last week and closes on Monday, January 28. The successful candidates will be announced on Tuesday, January 29.

For more information about the elections, visit the trust’s website: www.nwas.nhs.uk/elections.
