PIES were the theme of a tasty fund-raiser in Wigan.
Pemberton Community Association organised a piefest competition to find the tastiest crust, which included all the four local bakers – Greenhalgh’s, Glovers, Galloways and the Kitchen Village Bakery.
The contest was a close one, with all pies melting in the mouth, but there could only be one winner and Galloways, in Pemberton was chosen.
Members of the community association presented bakery staff with the Pemberton Pie of the Year Award for their meat and potato pie.
David Arrowsmith, who helped to organise the event, said: “The idea was put forward and arranged by resident Jane Glover and the event was sponsored by Cooperative funeralcare in Pemberton.
The funds raised on the day were put towards the Christmas hampers for the elderly. As well as the cash raised by the association throughout the year, Heinz and ward councillors also help to fund the hampers.”
