A Wigan coach has played an inspirational role in helping a cricket squad achieve outstanding success at the world's first national physical disability cricket tournament.
Award-winning coach Neil Bradshaw, from Winstanley, took charge of the Shropshire Disabled Cricket Squad at the Twenty20 cricket tournament, for people with physical disabilities which took place at Loughborough University.
The Midlands team played in blistering temperatures and beat teams from the South and the East to earn themselves a place in the final against the North.
The players put on a fantastic display, but were narrowly beaten by just a few runs.
Bradshaw said: "It is a great honour to be selected to coach the national side.
"The ECB and BACD are working tirelessly to promote disability cricket throughout not only the British Isles but right across the world.
"These exhibition matches will go a long way to help raise awareness of disability cricket and hopefully they will capture the imagination of the general public.
"Massive strides have been made in such a short period of time and to be involved at such a high level gives us both such pride and a real drive to make this a
success.
"The learning disability squad are preparing for a big winter tour and both the blind and deaf teams are already enjoying great international
success.
"Our long term vision is to progress the squad in the same way and my dream is to see a Ashes tour take place."
Four members of the Midlands team have been selected for the new England Physical Disability select squad, which Bradshaw will coach.
