A triathlete is heading for Hawaii to compete in a gruelling Ironman contest.
Julie Harrison, of Wigan, will swim 2.4 miles, cycle 112 miles and then run a full marathon of 26 miles against other super-fit hopefuls.

She earned a place at the Hawaii Ironman after battling through extreme weather at the UK qualification in Dorset, finishing the full distance in 12 hours, 32 minutes.

Harrison, 45, is a member of the Wigan and St Helens based Ashurst Bike Club, who have a range of members competing in triathlon and cycling events.

Club coach Marc Laithwaite, of Up Holland, said: "Julie's qualification is really deserved as she has dedicated a great deal of her life to achieve this result, all of the club wish her well when she travels to Hawaii in October."

The club has members from across the Wigan and surrounding area and anyone keen to try triathlon can contact the club through their website, ashurstbc.org.uk.
