Wigan will be represented by three athletes at the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games which begins this weekend.
Rachael Latham, of Billinge, will be hoping to tap into Great Britain's success in the Olympic pool when she competes in Beijing next week.

The 18-year-old St John Rigby College student will be in action at the distinctive Water Cube for her country in the Paralympics.

She will be joined in the pool by Billinge-born Heather Frederiksen, who now lives in Leigh. And Wigan's Jon

Pollock will also be in action in the basketball.

The Games opens on September 6 and closes on September 17. The swimming events take place at the National Aquatics Centre, also known as the Water Cube, from September 7 to 15.
