Midfield Lee Cattermole was a happy man after netting his first goal for Latics – and helping them book their place in the next round of the Carling Cup.
Wigan beat Ipswich 4-1 at Portman Road with all the goals coming in the second half.
The draw for the last 16 takes place on Saturday lunchtime and contains only nine Premier League clubs.

And Cattermole, who returned from suspension to play on Wednesday night, said: "For me, it was good to be back from suspension.
"It was frustrating training before the Tottenham game and then not being able to travel with the lads.

"Having a midweek game was good as it made the break from action a lot shorter.
"I like these cup night matches under the floodlights, and it's good to be in the hat for Saturday's draw."

Cattermole cleared a close-ranger header by Steve Bruce's son, Alex, to keep the game scoreless by half-time.
A dressing down by Bruce lifted the troops in the second-half and Cattermole, Olivier Kapo, Paul Scharner and Henri Camara scored goals.

Bruce said: "Ipswich caused us more problems than anyone else has this season. I thought they played really well.
"But they didn't take their chances, we did, and perhaps that shows the difference between the Premier League and the Championship.

"In the end, we ran out comfortable winners but it was tough going at times.
"We're in the hat for the next round and a home draw would be nice.
"It was important to win as it keeps our momentum going – that's five games unbeaten for us now."

With only eight other Premier League teams remaining in the Carling Cup, Bruce will be hoping for a favourable draw as he hopes to progress in the competition.
"Who knows what we could do in this competition?" he said.

"We've been to the final before, and I think this is our realistic chance of winning something.
"If we can avoid some of the big ones in the draw, you never know what might happen.

"We now turn our attention back to the Premier League, and it's a big match against Manchester City on Sunday, which should be fantastic.
"We've got an extra day to prepare and it will be a good test for us."
