Latics legend Arjan De Zeeuw has returned home to Holland – and revealed he's opening talks about extending his career at the age of 38.
The former JJB Stadium captain, who played 197 games for Wigan in two spells, wants to play for one more year in his homeland.
He had stated he would hang up his boots at the end of last season, but only played 19 times for Coventry before his deal expired.
De Zeeuw told the Observer: "I'm moving back to Holland for good.
"I'm speaking to a couple of clubs this week and then I'll make a decision on my future.
"One is in the Dutch first division and the other is in the division below. To be honest they shouldn't be in that division because they are a good club.
"I still feel reasonably fit. I love football and I really don't want to give it up.
"I know there will come a time when I have to call it a day. But I honestly don't feel tired and want to play for another year.
"Obviously if these clubs I'm speaking to say they'll be training five times a week and playing two games a week then I won't be able to do that.
"I haven't played a game since February. I had one game for Coventry when Chris Coleman took over against West Brom. I got a kick in the game and had to go off, but it cleared up in 10 days.
