Goalkeeper Chris Kirkland has given Latics a pre-season injury scare after an old back problem flared up.
Wigan boss Steve Bruce revealed that the stopper had complained of the injury during the Austrian training camp.
Carlo Nash took his place in Saturday's 3-2 win at Sheffield Wednesday, while Mike Pollitt deputised against Barnsley last week.

And it's likely that it will be one of the two back-up keepers who play in tomorrow night's friendly at SPL side Hibernian.
Bruce said: "Kirky hurt his back while we were on tour, that is a bit of a concern to us.

"We've also got Paul Scharner injured at the moment. He twisted his ankle in the Barnsley game but at the moment we don't think it is too severe.

"We'll probably know more about Scharner this week.
"Lee Cattermole also twisted his ankle at Sheffield but we think he'll be okay – it's not a bad one, thankfully."
Kirkland missed only one league game last season, his best appearance record of his career after previously being plagued by injury.

There were times during the campaign when he had to nurse problems with his back though, the injury twice forcing him to pull out of the England squad.
Latics will be hoping the 27-year-old can respond to treatment over the next 12 days in readiness for the first game of the season at West Ham.

Bruce was pleased with the victory over Wednesday at Hillsborough, new boy Amr Zaki firing a stoppage-time winner after Emile Heskey and Titus Bramble had netted in the first half.

He said: "It was a good workout and in the last couple of games we've not had any problems scoring goals.
"It was nice to see Zaki come on and score. That will have done him good and hopefully there is more to come from him.

"Pre-season is all about getting through the games and I'll tell you a week on Saturday at West Ham whether I think we have moulded together nicely.
"I've been in the game long enough not to get too carried away by friendly results.

Sometimes you think you're doing great and then you lose your first match of the season.
"But we're looking okay at the moment, I was pleased with how Daniel de Ridder and Olivier Kapo played at Sheffield Wednesday.

"I feel we've strengthened the squad with the four or five
signings we've made. They've brought some extra quality in, which is what I set out to do."
There was another start for Marlon King at Hillsborough despite the ongoing negotiations over a £3m move to Hull City.

Bruce admits he is losing patience with the situation. It is now more than a fortnight since Latics accepted a bid from the Tigers and gave the striker permission to talk to them.

It's the pay-off which King wants from Latics which appears to be delaying the deal, Hull having already negotiated terms with him.
"It's not happening at the
moment," said Bruce. "And if it's not going to happen soon I will probably knock the deal on the head. It's gone on long enough.

"If it's not going to happen, Marlon will be part of the squad here and rightly so, that is what we pay him for.
"There's no problem with him staying here. If the deal is not quite for him and the player isn't sure in his own mind, it's his
prerogative to stay."
