Latics 2 Manchester City 1

Wigan held their nerve to secure a 2-1 home win over Manchester City. Steve Bruce's men took their unbeaten run to six games – including four in the league – with a spirited display at the JJB Stadium.
All three goals were scored in the opening half. Efforts from Antonio Valencia and Amr Zaki sandwiched a Vincent Kompany goal in an eventful opening half.
Valencia got the ball rolling for Latics in the 16th minute with a brilliant strike from outside the box.
City replied two minutes later when Kompany poked the ball home from a freekick, after Maynor Figueroa had missed the clearance.
But Zaki ensured the home side were in control at half-time with his fifth goal of the Premier League season – albeit in controversial circumstances.
Wilson Palacios tumbled in the box after the slightest of touches from Javier Garrido, and Egyptian Zaki stepped up to coolly take the penalty.
Chances were few and far between in the second half that, as a spectacle, never matched the first.
Wigan worked hard to disrupt City, who only had two real goal-scoring opportunities in the second-half.
Chris Kirkland denied Elano with a stunning save on the hour and then, in the 74th minute, Titus Bramble cleared the ball after a messy effort by substitute Ched Evans.
Tempered flared throughout the second-half but Latics hung on to claim all three points.
