Scharner set for new deal

Paul Scharner is set to sign an extended contract with Latics later this month.
Manager Steve Bruce is confident the Austrian will remain at the JJB Stadium despite keen interest from Premier League rivals
Fulham, Sunderland and West Bromwich Albion.
It was feared the 28-year-old could move, but while talks with Scharner and his representative remain ongoing, he looks likely to extend his current contract.
If Scharner stays on, the competition for places at the heart of defence will be fierce next season with Emmerson Boyce and Titus Bramble, a target for Paul Jewell's Derby, all battling for a
starting berth.
Scharner, who arrived from Norwegian outfit SK Brann in January 2006 for a fee of £2m, has certainly been value for money.
He made an immediate impact with a debut goal against Arsenal in the
Carling Cup semi-final, and has since made 85 appearances, scoring a dozen goals.
