Wigan Warriors stars launched an annual fun-run – to help raise thousands of pounds for charity.
The fourth Run4alife event takes place this September with organisers confidently expecting the 2008 fund-raiser to double in size this year.

The 5km run through Haigh Hall is open to men and boys and raises money for men's cancer research.

More than 500 are set to take part, including several Warriors first-team stars.

Captain Sean O'Loughlin said: "It'd be great to see as many people as possible take part, and raise lots of money for a great cause."
Wigan Rotary club created the fund-raising event to emulate the women's Race for Life.

It traces the same route as the ladies run, which raises thousands for breast and cervical cancer.

Unlike the nationwide Race for Life, Run4alife only takes place in Wigan but its popularity is swelling with more than £25,000 raised for research into prostate and testicular cancer.

Organiser Phil Hirst said: "The first event in 2005 had 110 people racing, last year we had 270 and this year we want to break the 500 barrier.
"The more people we can get involved, and the more we raise, the better."

All money donated goes to Cancer Research UK and will be earmarked for studies into men's cancer.

Phil added: "Prostate cancer is now the biggest cancer killer of men, and more than 2,000 die of testicular cancer in the UK each year."

The run takes place on Sunday, September 21, from Haigh Hall and those taking part can run or walk. Under-16s are invited but they must be accompanied by an adult.

Entry fee is £8 adults and £5 Under-18s and Phil, who lives in Standish, added: "It doesn't matter if people think they haven't got time to raise lots of money, we want as many people as possible – every little does help."

To request an entry form call 07005 978178 and leave your name, address and post code on the answer phone. A website will be launched in the coming weeks.
