A WIGAN charity will be able to throw a money-spinning sports-themed quiz night thanks to a reward scheme.
Embrace Wigan and Leigh has won £500 to enjoy a Big Day Out, through a public vote, courtesy of System One, Greater Manchester’s travelcard provider.
The charity will use the money to host a rugby and football themed quiz night for its Never Watch Alone fans and buddies.
Stephanie Hermann, Never Watch Alone co-ordinator, said: “I am delighted that Embrace Wigan and Leigh have been voted as the charity in Wigan that deserves a Big Day Out.
“The donation will enable us to host a rugby and football themed quiz night for our Never Watch Alone fans and buddies.
“Never Watch Alone enhances lives through sport by matching fans with a disability to like-minded supporter, who is a friend, not a professional carer, to share their passion and enjoyment of watching the game and also the socialising and camaraderie before and after the match.
“The local initiative enables fans with disabilities to build additional friendships, relationships and activities and the Big Day Out donation will go a long way in helping us to achieve this.”
A total of 10 organisations – one from each borough of Greater Manchester – received a share of
£5,000 from System One Travelcards.
Gradyn Thompson, general manager of System One Travelcards, said: “We understand that many of these fantastic organisations are facing a tough year financially and are increasingly relying on the hard work and generosity of the local community and their unpaid volunteers to continue providing vital services.
“Being able to reward these projects with £500, which will allow them to enjoy an extra special day out this summer, is a real pleasure.”
