The tale of a down and out boxing promoter who emerges from various tangles with the gangsters of the mob, the stage version is based closely on the 1970s film which is a homage to classic Hollywood gangster films.

The choice of musical was also particularly appropriate as the film version was acted entirely by a school-age cast.

The show played to packed houses at the Rookery Avenue school, with local primary school pupils also being invited to watch the dress rehearsal.
