AN AUTISTIC teenager living in a children’s home had a birthday wish come true, courtesy of a Wigan limousine company.

Corey Whyte, who lives at Landgate House in Leigh and has autistic spectrum condition, asked for a ride in a limousine as his dream birthday presents and wrote to companies across the borough asking if they could help him achieve his ambition.

His touching letter, which explained how he is learning to improve his behaviour with the help of Landgate House staff, arrived at the door of limousine hire firm Skydrivers, based in Ashton, and moved owner Dave Ward so much he immediately agreed to grant Corey’s request.

The company sent a prestige American car to pick Corey up after he had met his family for a meal at a restaurant and whisked him off on a tour of the early evening roads.

Corey, 13, said: “I went to Taybarns for my 13th birthday with my family.

“Dave Ward from Skydrivers came to pick us up in his Chrysler and we had a good drive.

“They bought me a gift and very nice card.

“I felt emotional and thankful because I had wanted to do this for a long time.

“I would like to say thank you to Dave and Skydrivers for everything: they made my dream come true.”

Skydrivers also made sure that Corey had some more permanent memories of his trip around the borough from the back seat of their luxury Chrysler, having pictures taken with him behind the steering wheel and also throwing in a couple of birthday presents.

Dave said: “My wife and I both found Corey’s letter extremely moving and emotional and I was very pleased to be able to make his dream come true.

“I don’t think they had told Corey we were picking him up, and his eyes absolutely lit up when he saw the car.

“He wanted to know all about it and was just over the moon.

“Corey is a really nice kid and it was lovely to be able to do something like that for someone who doesn’t have the opportunity to do it for themselves.”
