A WIGAN Warriors cheerleader is in the final five of a regional competition to win a whopping £25,000 towards her wedding.
Kerry Rubotham, who is in her sixth and last season with the Warrior Girls, and fiance Norm Keane, 26, have already seen off scores of other wedding hopefuls to be in with a chance of having absolutely everything paid for in their dream wedding.
Kerry said: “It would be amazing if we won. It would pay for everything, the wedding, the dresses, the cake, the venue – even the stag and hen dos!
“I couldn’t believe it when I heard we were in the final five as we only entered last minute so we just have fingers crossed we’ll win now.”
However, the couple have to work for their prize. The competition, dubbed Bride Wars, is being run by a local radio station in conjunction with charity Cash4Kids.
The winning couple will be the ones who raise the most money for the charity in a one-week period. And 30-year-old Kerry has called on a few friends to help her out.
She said: “The Warrior Girls have been amazing. We’ve got lots of fund-raising events planned. It’s a great competition because it raises money for a worthy cause too so we’re really hoping we can help that way as well.”
The deadline for the competition is next Saturday, July 16 and the girls are planning are busy organising as much as they can for the couple who met at a local pub’s indie music night.
Confirmed is a quiz and raffle night at Berkeley Square in Wigan town centre on Thursday night, kicking off at 8pm.
Other events still in their planning stages are an Indie night and a car wash being run by the Warrior girls.
Kerry has said she is touched by the support she is getting from her fellow dancers, especially as it is her final year at the club.
She said: “It’s great that the girls are helping me out, I absolutely love dancing with them. Unfortunately, this is my last season with them and I’m hoping we’ll go out on a high!”
