GRAB your bucket and spade and head for the sands...of Wigan town centre!
The Galleries’ Summer Beach is set to return on July 29, with the summer fun set to stay until September 1.
Woodcock Square will once again be transformed into an inland resort, providing a free attraction for youngsters throughout the school holidays.
It will officially be launched at 11am where shoppers will be entertained with a summer beach party boasting face-painting, funfair stalls and lots of beach games and give-aways.
Karen Cox, marketing manager at The Galleries, said: “Join us in Woodcock Square and enjoy The Galleries’ award-winning summer beach. Take a break from shopping, relax on a deck chair, or even join in with one of the many free events we have planned.
“The Galleries Summer Beach is now in its sixth year and has had more than 50,000 shoppers relaxing on deckchairs and soaking up the summer vibes.”
With 10 tonnes of sand, palm trees, deckchairs and decking, the beach will also play host to a number of activities during the summer period including donkey rides, sherbet sand, candy floss and children’s activity workshops. The beach will be open daily from 10am to 5pm.
Meanwhile, elsewhere in the borough, Leigh residents will be able to pop down to their nearest beach next week as a corner of the town is also set to be transformed into a seaside resort.
For one week only, two tonnes of sand, buckets and spades, a funfair, carousels, stalls and refreshments will help turn Leigh’s Town Hall square into a seaside for the seventh year running. The seaside will be open from Monday July 22 until Friday July 26 between 11am and 5pm.
