THERE were plenty of Santas running around a Wigan park to raise money for various charities.
The borough’s first official Santa Dash took place at Mesnes Park, where more than 60 volunteers dressed as Jolly Old St Nick ran 5k.
Nick Abbott, organiser, of Seventy Eighty events management team, said: “People took part for different charities, but the main ones were Joseph’s Goal, Carrie on Fighting and Sarcoma, a soft tissue and bone cancer charity,
“It went very well for our first ever event. Each participant received a Santa suit, a mince pie, a turkey sandwich and some water.
“It was so much fun watching all the Santas run around.
“It was particularly poignant when nine-year-old Carrie North, who has muscular dystrophy, walked across the finish line with her family.
“This was aimed at being a fun event, getting people in the Christmas spirit.
“We have already booked next year’s dash for December 7 and we hope to run it every year and make it bigger and better each time.”
