A SPRINKLE of Las Vegas glamour will arrive in the borough at a charity night raising money for the young son of a murdered British soldier.

Father-and-son organising team John and Garry Hornsby are putting on the gala fund-raising evening at the Leigh Sports Village (LSV) in aid of the trust fund set up for Jack, the son of Fusilier Lee Rigby.

Garry, an Elvis impersonator who has reached the final of major international competitions, will be one of three tribute acts providing entertainment who have waived their fees for the evening.

The April event came about after John and Garry, both from Leigh, decided they wanted to swell the £2,000 trust fund given to Jack after his father was brutally killed by two Islamist fanatics outside his barracks in London.

John, 61, said: “Garry was appearing at a competition in Blackpool and we were speaking to Joey Blower, who works on the North Pier. It had come to his attention from Lee Rigby’s family that the son he left behind has received a £2,000 trust fund. He thought that was atrocious and wanted to do something about it.

“Joey wanted to get something together later in the year but Garry said he was keen to help by doing another evening that would run in conjunction.

“We’ve had a really good response from local businesses and people at the LSV have been very helpful.

“It’s really pleasing to see the way everyone has come together to support it. There’s a lot of worthy causes but this does seem to be something that’s touched quite a few people.

“Hopefully it will be a good night and it can raise some money for the little lad ahead of the other events later on in the year.”

Garry, who performs under the stage name Garry John and recently recorded a fifth-placed finish in the European Elvis Championships in Birmingham, will be joined by tribute acts to Michael Buble and Roy Orbison to provide entertainment at the LSV.

There will also be a three-course meal, disco and Las Vegas-style gaming tables as well as auctions and raffles with prizes including meals at local restaurants and electronic gadgets.

The Grand Vegas Tribute Night for the trust fund set up for Lee Rigby’s son Jack is in the Banqueting Suite at the LSV on April 18.

Tickets are £25 per person, available by ringing the LSV on 01942 487823.
