NOT content with the usual holiday snaps, one Wigan family has captured its vacation magic by appearing on TV.
Andy Baxendale, 45, of Billinge, wasted no time in posing for the cameras as he took his wife, Helen, 40, and two children Elizabeth, 13, and Adam, 10, to Torquay.
While staying at The Grosvenor last August, the family were filmed for Channel Four documentary The Hotel, which follows the exploits of holidaymakers and staff at a specific hotel, which changes each series.
Andy, who owns sweet factory Connie’s Kitchen, based in Pemberton, said; “When I booked the holiday, I knew what was going on and we volunteered to be filmed.
“A friend of ours has a coach company and so we went with him to the hotel.
“We were filmed as we enjoyed the hotel entertainment - playing with the children, singing on the karaoke, having fun at the pool party, playing the piano and telling jokes at the bar.
“There were cameras in the bedroom and there was a pre-arranged switch-on and off, as the cameras were on from 8am and they were switched off at 11pm.
“We got used to the cameras and we could see them on the walls so they could follow us where we went.
“After a while we forgot they were there and they were very unobtrusive. It was more exciting than scary!
“They followed us around all week and I even managed to plug my business - Connie’s Kitchen - quite a bit.
“We had radio mics on all the time when we were in the hotel and we took them off when we left the hotel during the day.”
Andy admitted he was used to life in the limelight, as he is part of blues band Blynde Chylde and all four members of the family have starred in Her Benny at a theatre in New Brighton.
Andy added; “My wife took a bit of persuading, but the three of us managed to talk her into it.
“Now she can’t wait to see it. We are all really excited!
“Our family and friends are looking forward to seeing it - probably just to take the mick out of us.”
Catch the Baxendales on The Hotel on Sunday, January 29, on Channel Four at 8pm.
