PIN your faith in Billy Boston - that’s the message from members of Wigan Warriors’ Supporters’ Club who have commissioned a new lapel badge to raise funds for the Billy Boston Statue Appeal.

The 80-year-old proudly showed off one of the pins - a bargain at £2 -in the Wigan Observer and since then supporters have jumped at the chance to get their own with almost 500 being snapped up in the first week alone.

They’re now available from our Martland Mill offices while stocks last with more already under order.

The Billy Boston Statue Trust was launched earlier this year with a vision of the monument being erected in 2015.

To do that, a total of £100,000 must be raised to build and maintain it and money has already started flying in from fans and friends.

The badges will also be on sale at the Wigan Warriors supporters club meeting on October 7, which will also see the launch of Bill Ashurst’s autobiography.

A number of events are also being planned for later in the year to raise funds, including an evening at Higher Ince Labour Club on November 1 with popular local singer John Martin performing.

There’s also an event for all the family tomorrow at Haigh Hall where all proceeds taken from the crazy golf complex will be donated to the statue appeal.

And a drawing by club director Winston Higham from a photograph of Billy taken by Joe Moran, has been reproduced into 100 limited edition prints.

A number have also been purchased by Martin Ainscough who is to auction them at a forthcoming fund-raiser at the Youth Zone, with the profits being divided between the two charities, If you are interested in buying one of the framed limited editions prints (and they are selling fast) contact Jean Fisher on 01942 506221 or visit the club shop in the Grand Arcade. Fans can now make donations to the Billy Boston Statue Trust at the Warriors shop in the Grand Arcade, to Wigan Warriors at Central Park and also to the Observer at Martland Mill.
