WIGAN’S musical fans will be given the opportunity to watch a live screening from the Royal Opera House.

Gloriana will be shown at Empire Cinema in Robin Park, on Monday June 24, at 7.15pm,

The opera about the public and private faces of Elizabeth I celebrates 60 years since it was first premiered at the Royal Opera House, and also marks the 60th anniversary of the Queen’s Coronation and 100th birthday of Composer, Benjamin Britten.

In 1953, Gloriana was commissioned by the Royal Opera House in celebration of the coronation of Elizabeth II. English composer, Benjamin Britten wrote the three-act opera to an English libretto by William Plomer.

Jon Nutton, marketing director of Empire Cinemas, said: “As the nation revels in royal nostalgia for the Queen’s 60th anniversary, we are thrilled to be able to offer cinemagoers an opportunity to enjoy an alternative piece of royal entertainment. With the Royal Opera House season coming to a close, the timing of the Gloriana screening feels to be a poignant and fitting end.” For information and to book tickets to the live screening of Gloriana visit or call 08 714 714 714.
