VERNON Kay has just signed a big ITV deal, making him the king of daytime television.
The former St John Rigby College pupil is extending his current brief to host a daily afternoon quiz show.
He has already made a pilot of his new game show, which will be aired early next year.
An ITV source said: “Vernon is one of the key stars on the channel and they want him to have more airtime. He is adored by viewers and is fast establishing himself as one of a handful of top entertainment presenters.
“It will be a quiz show and he will be extending his current job within ITV so it will be more work for him – and a nice sum of money too. The pilot went really well and now everyone is looking forward to the new series. He will undoubtedly become the king of the daytime television.”
The Splash! and All Star Family Fortunes presenter became the Boss of Beef at restaurant chain Beefeater to encourage families to go out together as a family.
He told OK! magazine: “Beefeater is a place of celebration. I’ve been to a few of its restaurants with my own family since getting involved with the campaign.
“We are encouraging everyone to go out as a family and eat. These days it’s very easy to go out and give the kids your i-Pad if they are getting restless. But it’s nice to put the technology away and have an old-school conversation.”
And for dad-of-two Vernon, family time is very important.
He admits his two girls, Phoebe, nine, and Amber, five, with Strictly Come Dancing host Tess Daly have the ability to reduce him to tears.
He said: “I cry all the time. Whenever the kids do something, I cry. When we were on holiday recently, both our girls performed songs from Frozen at a talent show. I bawled my eyes out!”
He added that the girls are independent and he has enjoyed the new social life that comes with being a parent.
He explained: “They get dressed, clean their teeth, and they put their school uniforms on. And you make friends with the parents at the school. I’ve got a new circle of friends through the kids.”
And he recently celebrated his landmark 40th birthday but doesn’t feel any different: “I’m not really bothered. I don’t feel old. I feel invigorated.”
And golden couple Vernon and Tess were amongst a host of celebrities, including Wigan’s Hacker T Dog in the royal box at Wimbledon.
