An honour for Sir Ian

SIR Ian Mckellen is to be given an honorary doctorate by the University of Ulster.

The former Wiganer, who is currently filming for The Hobbit, is to receive the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Letters for his services to acting.

Other celebs to be honoured include Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson and US Open Golf Champion Rory McIlroy.

The degrees will be conferred during the summer and winter graduation ceremonies.
