FAVOURITE festival headliners The Courteeners will be the opening act at Wigan’s summer concerts.
The Manchester four-piece are set to rock an 8,000-strong crowd at Haigh Hall Live on June 30 with guest support from Merseyside’s finest, The Coral and promising Salford-based starlet Ren Harvieu, with further acts to be announced in the coming weeks.
Described as what could be an “epic” event by organisers Cuffe and Taylor, the band kicks off the four-day outdoor concert series which will see pop-star, Peter Andre take the stage on Friday, July 1 and local bands perform at Haigh Festival on the Sunday, July 3.
The Courteeners, whose songs include Not Nineteen Forever and You Overdid It Doll, have just announced their appearances at the sell-out V Festival and Isle of Wight Festival.
With two top-10 albums under their belt, the lads, who have also headlined Ibiza Rocks, played a sell-out concert in December at the 16,000 capacity Manchester Evening News Arena.
And tickets for a concert this July in Delamere Forest sold out in a record 38 minutes.
A spokesman for Haigh Hall Live organisers Cuffe and Taylor Event Management said: “We are hugely proud to announce The Courteeners are playing Haigh Hall, it’s the perfect act for Wigan.
“The fact that The Courteeners have become so popular provides the perfect inspiration to the bands performing in Sunday’s Haigh Fest.
“After last years Tuned-In events organised by Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust, we felt that we needed to appeal to a wider audience.
“Not only have we secured The Courteeners, but another massive act, The Coral. We don’t think that Wigan has seen such an epic event since The Verve last played their iconic gig at Haigh Hall in 1998.”
