ZOMBIES, pirates and robots rubbed shoulders with sci-fi and fantasy stars of the small and big screen as Wigan hosted its fourth giant comic con.

And while perhaps not as well attended as the last thanks to foul weather, hundreds of folk, many dressed up as their favourite film, TV and comic book characters, descended on the Robin Park sports and tennis centre for an afternoon of autograph-hunting, memorabilia-buying and hero-worship.

There was some disappointment that two of the biggest names on the guest list weren’t able to make it. The sixth Doctor Who Colin Baker and Jemma Redgrave who plays Brigadier Stewart in the modern series were absnet. But one-time Davros Terry Molloy was there and there was an unexpected bonus with the appearance of Jacqueline Pearce, who was the arch-baddie Servalan in the 1970s sci-fi series Blake’s Seven.

Actors from Game of Thrones also attended the convention for the first time and there was a question and answer session featuring several of the guests.

The retro gaming area was also a big hit, as was a contest for the best cosplay outfits and Savage FX’s live zombie make-up demo. The world of comics is also well represented with artists and writers including Mike Garley, Dave Windett and John Royle.
