A WIGAN hotel raised hundreds of pounds for the Mayor’s charity after staging an Ascot-themed event.
Around 100 women dressed up in the traditional finery and hats of the famous Royal Ascot horse racing meeting and descended on The Beeches at Standish for the Ladies’ Day money-spinner.
The hotel served lunch and held a raffle, bringing in £850 for the appeal, which this year will be split between improving home nursing care for terminal cancer patients and sufferers of multiple sclerosis.
The cheque was presented by hotel staff to the Mayor of Wigan, Coun Joy Birch, and her Consort.
Beeches manager Kathy Hickman said: “We’ve been raising money for the Mayor’s Charity for the past couple of years now, and this year’s causes are ones we really wanted to do something for, because they’re quite close to home for us.”
The hotel will continue their series of horse racing-themed fundraisers with a champagne breakfast held on the day of the Grand National, April 14, which will include a raffle to raise money for charity.
