She was tipped for X Factor success in the early stages, but she found herself in the bottom two, with Spanish singer Ruth Lorenzo.

Fans asked Ofcom to investigate the voting system, and Leigh MP Andy Burnham took it to the Houses of Parliament.

Laura posted on Facebook: “Very thankful to my fans/public and Digital Spy after being informed I was voted number one most shocking/robbed exit on X Factor. After 12 years of my music It was a tough time but I am now so happy to show you all the artist/writer that I really am. And guess what.. We did it together.”

Since then Laura has had great success. She recently penned the Charles Hamilton/Rita Ora song New York Raining, as featured on the US No 1 soundtrack album for Empire and toured with Peter Andre as his support act in 2009.

She has recorded an EP - My Mother Taught Me which was released last year and is currently recording new material.

She posted in Twitter: “I have so many songs I wanna write. I am so excited for my next studio recordings. “I’m gonna keep workin & workin until James Cordon loves me enough to invite me to do carpool.”

She also hinted at putting on a private show for fans.
