Boomin ready to explode

Wigan rockers Boomin have been touring the town's pubs and clubs for the last three years, wowing audiences with cover versions of pop and rock classics, past and present.

The band's devoted fanbase grows with every performance and lead singer and guitarist Adam Langmead, bass player Rory O' Grady and drummer Ed Langmead are setting their sights on hitting the big time.

After recently auditioning for the upcoming series of hit ITV show Britain's Got Talent, Boomin are hoping to land a record deal which could see them take a shot at the music business.

Rory, 22, said: "We went for the audition at The Lowry in Manchester in November last year.

"We didn't hear anything for a while and thought nothing would come of it.

"It was only when me and Ed came back from a holiday in Sydney in January that we got a call from the team behind the show telling us that they were considering us.

"That's how things stand at the moment.

"If we do make it onto the show that would be great, but even if we don't we'll take another crack at it next time around."

Rory first met Ed at Wigan and Leigh College, where they were both in the same year studying a diploma in music.

Rory, from Wrightington Street, said: "We formed a metal band called Six String Root in 2004.

"There were six of us to begin with, but as time went on members began to leave.

"At the end of 2005 we decided to call it a day and started up a new band called Impact, playing covers.

"We began playing at pubs and clubs in the borough and did so for around six months.

"We had four members in the band at the time, but then came to the decision that we could give it a go with just three of us and Adam became the lead singer."

And so Boomin was born and the lads wasted no time in putting together setlists which would have audiences cheering them on wherever they played.

As well as playing covers of songs from the likes of Kings Of Leon, The Killers and Foo Fighters, the band are well known for covering the likes of Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry and Elvis Presley.

"We've even covered Girls Aloud," said Rory.

"We've never taken ourselves too seriously and want to play songs for everybody to enjoy."

Boomin recently made it through to the regional finals of the UK wide Live and Unsigned competition, which will be held on March 29 at The Willows in Salford.

The overall winner of the competition will be offered a recording and management contract with Future Music with an investment of up to 20,000 to release a single.

They will also be invited on the UK Live and Unsigned Tour which involves 100 gigs across the UK.

Rory said: "We started recording our own material in October last year and will be putting out an EP and filming a video soon.

"Working on our own songs, supporting bands on the gig circuit, and picking up some more fans is what we really want to do."
