INFANT and junior school pupils from a dozen local schools entered a “Why I love Wigan” competition organised by the giant White Arrow Logistics firm which has taken over the former GUS warehouse at Martland Mill.

The entries includes handmade books, a magic box of tricks and other works of art and literacy showing magnificent imaginations.

Mab’s Cross School, Wigan, emerged winners, taking the £1,000 prize. The name of the winning pupil will be announced when pupils attend a celebration at White Arrow Logistic next month.

Richard Hall, director of White Arrow Logistics, said: “We want to get involved with the local community and this is our first venture. I’m delighted to say that the response was so great and it proves that children at school appreciate their town and know it’s a great place to live.”

Wigan MP Lisa Nandy, one of the judges, said: “It is almost overwhelming to see such a vast amount of talent in one space. The children have really thrown themselves into this project. Some entries are funny and some serious. I’m learning more and more about the town thanks to these entries.”
