ONE of the deserving causes to which Warriors captain Sean O’Loughlin has pledged some of his testimonial proceeds is Wigan’s new Youth Zone.

And the rugby league ace now has a very good idea of the top class facilities that await thousands of Wigan youngsters in 2013 after visiting its already-built Manchester counterpart.

The Great Britain skipper was a VIP guest at The Factory Youth (FYZ) Zone in Manchester ahead of Thursday’s testimonial match at the DW Stadium. FYZ is a purpose-built youth facility, and O’Loughlin, the Warriors’ longest-serving player, was visiting to get a better understanding of a similar project that is being built in his home town: Wigan Youth Zone.

The boys and girls’ club, construction work on which is soon due to start at the Mesnes Playing Fields site, which he is supporting alongside the Emma Hoolin Appeal and Wigan Alzheimer’s Society.

O’Loughlin said: “This is a first-class facility and just what young people need to keep them active and off the streets.

“The staff here at The Factory are fantastic, really passionate and enthusiastic and I’m really pleased to be able to support a similar project like this in Wigan.”

Wigan Youth Zone is the brainchild of Wigan businessman Dave Whelan who, along with Martin and Bill Ainscough, has donated more than half of the development costs.
