VERNON Kay is to host a new music quiz show.
The former St John Rigby pupil has worked on a pilot episode for a new celebrity panel show, which is being viewed as a mainstream version of BBC2’s long-running show Never Mind The Buzzcocks.
A source said: “It’s time for ITV to take on Buzzcocks. The idea for this show is to make it much more mainstream, with a focus on popular music, bands and singers who are in the charts today.”
Former Big Brother presenter Brian Dowling and McFly drummer Harry Judd - who won Strictly Come Dancing in 2011 - were team captains on the pilot, and it looks like they could land the roles permanently after impressing in the first show.
The source added to the Daily Mail newspaper: “Strictly proved Harry is ready to step out on his own.
“He’s actually very intelligent and witty, and was more than able to hold his own with Brian.”
Vernon recently hosted Splash! and insisted he was proud of the celebrity diving contest, despite it being slammed by critics.
He said: “It’s good, it’s that kind of watercooler moment and I think that’s what you want for a prime time ITV show is everyone talking about it - good or bad. I think the first show, there were some technical issues and then we found our feet and now we are peaking at over 6.5m viewers.”
