THE trailer for JRR Tolkien’s The Hobbit has been released.
The teaser, which features Wigan actor Sir Ian Mckellen as Gandalf, suggests that The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will be a real treat for cinemagoers when it is released on December 14.
Other stars include Martin Freeman, Andy Serkis, Elijah Wood, Cate Blanchett, Orlando Bloom and Benedict Cumberbatch.
Meanwhile, Sir Ian returned to his home country to show support for an amateur theatre group.
The former X-Men star who grew up in Wigan, enjoyed the Company of Players (CoPs) performance of the Noël Coward comedy at the Little Theatre in Hertford.
The actor, who is patron of the Little Theatre Guild, launched the group’s 50th anniversary with his appearance.
CoPs chairman Paul Morton said: “We are very excited about the golden anniversary season and were delighted to welcome Sir Ian McKellen to the first night of Blithe Spirit.
“His attendance made a great show extra special and brought out an extra special performance from the cast.
“Sir Ian laughed all the way through the sell-out show, and then stayed to meet the cast, crew and other members of the company.
“He posed for photographs and signed programmes and scripts, and had a good look around the theatre.”
