KAY Burley is no push over and she certainly won’t let negative comments on Twitter get her down.
The former Beech Hill resident recently attracted abuse after she accused Dolly Parton of miming at Glastonbury, but to her, it is just literally “water off a duck’s back.”
She told The Press Gazette: “Well I get criticised all the time on Twitter but you can’t really take it too seriously...If you’ve done as much live telly as I have, of course you’re going to get criticised. It doesn’t offend me or upset me in the slightest... it’s water off a duck’s back.”
But despite the Twitter trolls and criticism, Kay admits she loves her job as Sky News reader.
She said: “If you cut me in half I’ve got Sky News written right through me. I have the best job in the world.”
And speaking about breaking news live, and the perils of making a mistake in front of millions of viewers, she said: “It’s about good teamwork. I have a fantastic exec producer, I have a fantastic team that work well as a group together. If they tell me something... or if they give me some breaking news in my ear, I trust them implicitly, 100 per cent.
“Nobody likes to make a mistake, obviously. But you know you just get back on the horse...
“The phrase that I often use is that doctors bury their mistakes, lawyers lock their’s up and television presenters broadcast their’s.
“If you make a mistake, 130 million people around the world will know about it. But hopefully I don’t make too many mistakes. I’ve been at the top of my game for 35 years, so I must be doing something right.”
But it is not all work for Kay. She loves nothing more to flop in her pyjamas and watch girly TV.
She told The Daily Mail: “I wear jim-jams in bed no matter what. If I’m at home with the dogs, then it’s slouch time — and on go my fabulous black and white Ralph Lauren pyjamas.
“There’s nothing better than a duvet day, with a carton of my favourite white chocolate ice-cream, a box set of Sex And The City and my favourite Ralph Laurens.”
