AN animal charity is calling for more donations to help expand its pet clinic in Wigan.

As part of national RSPCA week, volunteers from the RSPCA Wigan, Leigh and District Branch will be collecting money at the Tesco superstores in Wigan, Hindley and Atherton all this week.

And to appeal to soft animal lovers, Bonzo the charity mascot will be around to encourage people to donate.

The money raised will go towards funding the PAWS (Providing Animal Welfare Solutions) Centre, in Wallgate, which opened last June, and provides low cost treatment every Tuesday for pets whose owners can’t afford normal veterinary care.

Bill Stubbs, pictured, branch manager for the RSPCA Wigan branch, said: “As our work has to be funded by money raised locally, the national RSPCA week acts as a drive to ask people to help us and donate. If we could raise more money, it would help us secure another clinic during the week and help more animals.”
