A FILM lovers’ fanzine produced in Ashton-in-Makerfield is close to celebrating its 10th anniversary.

The Popsicle fanzine is dedicated to the series of Lemon Popsicle comedy films, made in the 1970s and 80s.

It is the brainchild of Roy Mitchell, who started the free bi-annual fanzine in 2002. Roy said: “The fanzine is dedicated to the series of Lemon Popsicle films which have a cult status. There were eight films released from 1978 to 1988 and they are about three teenaged friends who hang out at the local ice-cream parlour and get up to all kinds of adventures in their search for girls.

“This particular issue is number 20 and features an exclusive interview with Ariela Rubinowich, who played Benji’s girlfriend Doris in the third film, Hot Bubblegum.”

There is also a regular feature about the films’ music, compiled by Andrew Hunt from Bamfurlong. Email Roy at popsicleape@hotmail.com for details.
