A LEGENDARY Wigan nightclub has been demolished following safety fears.
Just a month after InnTheBar pub chain owner Tony Callaghan bought the former Pemps building in Dorning Street, safety experts condemned it and it was torn down.
The club, for many years owned by the late Barbara Calderbank, was beloved of both Wiganers and those from out of town and was known for Barbara’s strict entry rules.
It shut its doors seven years ago for “a full refurbishment” and never re-opened.
But Tony had to make the painful decision to move the bulldozers in.
He said: “The building has been condemned as structurally unsafe and had to be demolished.
“When I acquired the building last month, my first priority was to make it safe.
“It could not be left as someone could break into the empty building and it could endanger their life.”
