RESIDENTS at a care home got to rekindle memories of being beside the seaside with a very special four-legged visitor.
Rusty the donkey visited Hourigan House, in Leigh, for a petting and pampering session organised by the Manchester Animal Shelter.
The animal therapy event allowed residents to stroke and pet Rusty while remembering childhood holidays at Britain’s coastal resorts, where donkey rides were a key attraction on many of the country’s beaches.
The visit also helped the home’s residents to gain confidence and provide opportunities for companionship and social interaction. The animal shelter runs a dedicated Seniors for Seniors Companion Programme, which recognises the benefits of spending time with animals for older people.
