A WIGAN singer who has recorded with some of dance music’s biggest names is offering youngsters the chance to emulate their pop heroes at a new summer holiday academy.
Nina Lenaghan, from Whelley, is launching her Pop Rocks Academy which will run for children aged between seven and 12 at The Village on the Green in Aspull next month.
Nina, who has collaborated with Akon and recorded for Clubland as well as appearing as half of cabaret duo Oxygen, will put on a week’s worth of tuition in singing and dancing with the help of husband Liam.
The academy will end with a spectacular concert which will see the youngsters perform on stage for friends and family with professional sound and lighting equipment.
Nina, 33, said: “I’ve been teaching singing at a local theatre school since January and I’ve been blown away by the young talent in Wigan, so I decided to do something on a bigger scale and get the summer school going.
“I want to make it as exciting as possible with the big stage, lights and microphones and give kids the chance to perform like their pop idols.
“Liam will do the rapping if anyone’s interested and provide piano accompaniment, while I will teach singing and dancing and do the choreography.”
The academy will run twice with each course being a week long, focusing on the music of chart-topping acts such as Rita Ora, Pharrell Williams and Little Mix.
The academy will run from August 11 to 15 and August 18 to 22 from 9am until 4pm every day with a concert at 5.30pm on the Friday.
Places are limited to around 20 each week and the course is £70. To book, ring Nina or Liam on 07810 356181 or visit www.poprocksacademy.co.uk
