SIR Ian Mckellen loves getting down with the youth of today.
So it would hardly surprise fans if a YouTube video was to go viral of him singing Right Said Fred’s I’m Too Sexy...
Luckily this is not the real Sir Ian - it is comedian Hunter Davies showing off his realistic Magneto impression with a medley of 90s pop hits such as Ice, Ice Baby, Wannabe and Tubthumping. This is a follow up to Hunter’s 2013 medley in which he sings Bohemian Rhapsody as Gandalf, Smeagol and Gollum, of Lord of the Rings.
The actor, who grew up in Wigan, has been busy of late, promoting Mr Holmes and the second series of ITV comedy Vicious. And he is already contemplating a possible third season for Vicious. He told the Hull Daily Mail: “If there was a third series, I expect we’d be ready to say ‘yes’ again. It’s a very fun show to do.”
Comparing the British sitcom to the American classic I Love Lucy, he said: “It’s deliberately old fashioned as part of the joke. The fun of it is that the characters you’ve got in this are not characters you normally see in a standard sitcom.”
And proving Sir Ian is a northerner at heart, he received a special belated birthday present from his former castmates at Coronation Street. He was being interviewed by Eamonn Holmes for This Morning about his new role as Sherlock Holmes when he was surprised with a cobble from the set. Bill Roache, famous for playing Ken Barlow, appeared on a happy birthday message telling him about the gift.
