SIR Ian McKellen is to fire the gun to start this year’s Pride Run 10K.
The Wigan-raised actor was delighted to be asked to set this year’s run in motion, on September 15.
He said; “As a patron of the Albert Kennedy Trust, I am grateful to all those intrepid runners raising funds for the Trust’s work with young LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) people who desperately need our support and guidance.
“I look forward to meeting everyone at the start of the run, with the starting gun.”
The annual Pride Run 10K is organised by London Frontrunners, Britain’s largest gay and lesbian running club.
Money raised from the event will go to the Albert Kennedy Trust, which provides support for young LGBT people who have faced homophobia, abuse and homelessness.
The Trust’s Give 15 Campaign will benefit from this year’s fundraising to help give housing support, and provide advice help lines for LGBT people in need.
