YOUNG people have met with councillors to discuss the future of a Wigan skate park.
Ashton skate park has proved a massive hit with young people in the area and now local councillors are keen for them to come forward and help create a new funding bid to develop the community facility further.
Young adults joined Bryn Councillors Gary Wilkes and Don Hodgkinson to discuss how to obtain between £15,000 and £20,000 to create phase two of the park to build a roof to put over the current facilities, subject to planning permission.
Coun Wilkes said: “The young people put forward a very good case to get our funding and now it’s just a case of watch this space.”
Scott Godwin, 22 Garswood said after the meeting: “I use the skate park a lot and the local councillors seem to be doing a lot more for the young people in the area than what they used to when I was younger.”
The current skating facilities, including ramps with artistic graffiti, opened last summer and has helped reduce complaints in the area.
