REALITY pop stars stick together as Kym Marsh has shown her support for ex-Girls Aloud singer Sarah Harding following her performance in Coronation Street.
Sarah played the wife of Tracy Barlow’s love-rat ex husband and fans and critics were less than impressed by her acting skills.
I feel for her as it’s hard for anyone to come into a long-running TV show with such well-loved charactersKym Marsh
The soap announced it had no plans to develop her character further.
But Ashton-born Kym, who found fame on Popstars, wrote in her OK! column: “I feel for her as it’s hard for anyone to come into a long-running TV show with such well-loved characters.
“Sarah’s first scene was with Rita in The Kabin and of course she’s going to be compared with actors like that.
“Don’t forget, she was probably nervous too. I know I was when I came into the show.
“She’s come in as a guest artist and I think the way people have been so vocal has been a bit harsh.
“When somebody new comes in, there are always going to be people who are unsure about them.
“She seems to be handling it okay though and has been tweeting that she was chuffed about her debut.”
But Sarah, who catapulted to stardom following Popstars the Rivals, hit back at the criticisms she has faced, telling This Morning: “I try not to pay any attention to that. If you’re going in as a known face, you’re always going to get flak. If anything, I turn all that into a positive energy. It just makes me more determined.”
