WIGAN’S uniformed organisations took to the streets to celebrate George’s Day Parade.
Well over 2,000 Explorer Scouts, Scouts, Cubs, Beavers, Guides, Brownies and Rainbows gathered at Wigan Parish Church on Sunday for a resplendent march behind flags and company banners.
The Scouts and Guides took the salute at a specially-erected vantage point outside Wilkinsons store in Standishgate.
The march concluded with a service at the Parish Church where statutory promises were renewed.
Wigan Scouts District Commissioner Paul Green said that the response to the event showed that the movement, founded by Robert Baden Powell in 1907, was still thriving across the borough.
