AS locals reach the halfway point of their Stoptober efforts, Wigan Athletic stars have given their backing to the campaign.
The 28-day quit smoking scheme began on October 1 with Wigan Council calling on borough tobacco addicts to join in.
A now a number of Latics players have added to the calls.
Rob Kiernan said: “The Stoptober scheme is a brilliant way for fans and the wider Wigan community to come together as a group and try to give up smoking. The efforts of those who have taken part so far are brilliant and we’d like to encourage the smokers of Wigan to continue the scheme throughout October and to see the benefits quitting smoking can have.”
James Tavernier and Callum McManaman also backed the crusade.
For people wanting to quit smoking and get healthier, the Community Trust’s Fit Fans programme in partnership with Bridgewater Community Healthcare NHS Trust is the ideal place to start.
The 12-week programme is free and courses run across Wigan, giving participants the opportunity to look at all aspects of their health and fitness, including looking at the effects smoking can have. For further details Stoptober are available via www.smokefree.nhs.uk/Stoptober.
