A FUND-RAISING Wigan gran has set herself another “mahoosive” task for a local cause.
Mandy Grimshaw is heavily involved in boosting funds for the Carly Fairhurst Trust, set up in memory of the Hindley teenager killed by her abuser boyfriend.
The 46-year-old has never been shy of leading by example and already has a charity skydive among her credits.
Now she is preparing to take part in a marathon-length walk around Wigan borough.
She is seeking sponsors but will also be hoping to pick up donations from the public en route on Sunday, October 2.
And Mandy is making sure she is drumming up as much support in advance by visiting shops and pubs on the 26-mile course and wearing a special T-shirt promoting the “Mahoosive walk for Carly” when out training.
Being a logistics manager, Mandy has planned her journey to the inch and she will be embarking from Hindley to Westhoughton, then to Haigh, Red Rock, Standish, Shevington, Orrell, Goose Green, Bryn, Ashton, Platt Bridge and back to Hindley.
Mandy, whose daughter Shelley is the fiancee of Carly’s brother Mike, said: “I do a lot of walking so I thought I would take advantage of that.
“I first considered walking in a straight line from somewhere like Southport to Wigan but then thought I would make more money if I kept the walk local because everyone knows about Carly round here.
“So I have planned the route, got sponsor forms printed, have several pledges already in the bag and will be going round putting up posters and visiting shops and pubs that could be used as check-in points to prove I’ve completed the course!”
