WLT to get steamy for next show
WIGAN Little Theatre gets steamy in urban New Orleans with its next production.
Tickets go on sale this Monday for the production of Tennessee Williams’s challenging classic drama A Streetcar Named Desire.
The play tells the story of Blanche DuBois who comes to live in the slums of Elysian Fields, with her sister Stella and Stella’s husband Stanley Kowalski.
Blanche enrages Stanley by her airs and affectations, her reminiscences about her genteel past and her open distaste for his coarse vitality.
When he discovers that all her refinement is a mere façade, he destroys Blanche’s only hope of salvation: to marry his friend Mitch.
Bridget Patmore takes on the central role of Blanche with strong support from Erinna Delaney (Stella), Andrew Blake (Stanley) and Paul Dawson (Mitch).
Other roles are portrayed by Dave Johnson, Sue Hilton, Stephen Johnson, John McCabe, Elaine Delaney and newcomer, Liam Heaver.
Tracey Dawson says she is thrilled to be directing this tender yet powerful play, not only a favourite of hers personally but also a landmark of 20th century theatre.
A Streetcar Named Desire runs from Wednesday to Saturday February 15 to 25 at 7.30pm each evening (excluding Sunday).
The box office is open weekday nights between 7pm to 9pm). Telephone 01942 242561 or visit in person. Book online by visiting www.wiganlittletheatre.co.uk
