MATT Johnson, organiser of the Wigan 10k race, is thrilled with the response from the community as the build-up to the inaugural race enters its final stages.

The race, in association with Joining Jack, a charity set-up for former Warriors star Andy Johnson’s son who has muscular dystrophy, already has more than 2100 runners registered and registration has been extended due to a late flurry of people signing up.

Matt, Jack’s uncle, is also keen to point out that even non-runners can make a huge difference to the race on September 8 by volunteering in the same way the Gamesmakers of the 2012 London Olympics did.
