X FACTOR’S loss is Wigan’s gain, as it was announced finalist Kye Sones will be the headliner act at this year’s Christmas light switch-on event.

The 30-year-old was booted off the show after he received the fewest public votes, facing deadlock with fellow contestant Rylan Clark.

Kye, a former chimney sweep from London, will switch on the lights at the event in Wigan’s Market Place on Thursday, November 15, alongside Hacker T Dog from BBC Children’s TV show Hacker Time.

Richard Paxton, centre director of The Galleries, said: “Wigan Town Centre will be lit up by a special performance by 2012 X Factor finalist Kye Sones.

“We welcome everyone to join us, where you will be entertained by wonderful performances from a fabulous selection of acts.”

Radio presenter Danny Bee and Luke Marsden are hosting the evening’s events on the stage, starting from 4pm.

There will also be entertainment from local acts including Olivia Archbold, One Voice, Bon Bonz singer Zoe Unsworth, Boomin and Scott Chapman. The Rugby League World Cup trophy will also be on stage.

After the event finishes at 7.30pm, fans will then be offered the opportunity to have their photos taken with the trophy.

The Santa and Reindeer parade takes place on Sunday, November 18, starting at 1pm from Mesnes Park, arriving at Market Place at 1.30pm.

The parade includes marching bands and costume characters.

Following the parade, Santa and his reindeers remain in Market Place along with the performers until 4.30pm.
